The Mekon - Not always the Monster

Asshole loves to alienate his victims from those they trust the most. In my case, it was my friend Erin, who Asshole would go on to call The Mekon. Until recently, I thought The Mekon was something Asshole made up. However, The Mekon is a comic book character. I will admit that I know very little about the comic book Mekon, so I won't be comparing if he was accurate or not in his depiction of the character.

In my personal situation, Asshole used to encourage me to spend time with Erin. Which seems like the exact opposite of alienating me from her. However, he would then, in her presence behave/say/do the most unbelievable things. Each encounter being more outrageous than the last. The entire time, Erin would remain calm, and not say anything about what was happening. She never messaged me later, or said anything negative about Asshole. To be honest, I thought that if Erin wasn't saying anything, then maybe I was imagining things were worse than they really are.

However, Erin is a smart woman, who saw what Asshole was doing. She saw right through the charade. She kept quiet, biding her time, knowing that one day, I would reach out for help. By refusing to be alienated from my life, she became my life line on the day that I made my great escape. I planned it all, and she had no clue until I texted her that I needed help. Then she sprang to action helping me get his shit out of my house. That was really her only role in the break up. Helping after it was done.

In the months that would follow, Asshole would lead a smear campaign against Erin. Labelling her an alcoholic (umm, says the alcoholic,) a narcissist (again, really?) and many other things. He would file complaints with various organizations which Erin was involved with, both professionally and personally. Of course, none of these accusations would be proven true, and he is the one who has plead guilty to multiple charges.

Ironic that he uses a green alien to depict the person he was green with envy over, who no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't alienate her from my life. As The Mekon above says "Free at last." While, Erin and are I free from Asshole, I realize that those reading this blog might not be. If you are The Mekon in his current story (he loves to reuse characters in his web of lies) please know, that I believe that you are not the horrible person he claims that you are. If your friend is in his grasp right now, struggling to know which way is up, just know that one day, if you are patient, and supportive of your friend, they will wake from his spell, and reach out for help. It might only be a minute that they have to get out, and they will need to move quickly. Please, don't allow Asshole to completely cut off your friend's supports. Somewhere, deep down, your friend is still there, even if you don't recognize the current version you see.
